Floor-to-ceiling aluminum sheets and pink carpeting will reconfigure the brand’s flagship on Via Manzoni, known for its minimalist, even austere decor, turning it into an installation apt for showcasing new products. The latter include the 3D-printed Iside Onda top-handle crafted from biodegradable corn filaments and bearing a wavy pattern, as well as Valextra Assoluto, a unisex capsule of regenerated nylon accessories, including a shopper, bumbag and backpack accented with a new matte black V-shaped hardware and matching zippers. Marking the introduction of the first Valextra Spa repair, cleaning and polishing service, a life-size wellness center is being mounted inside the store as part of the overall installation, housing artisans at work. Tongue-in-cheek merchandise — including towels, sleeping masks and aluminum trays — has been developed by Studio Temp to mark the initiative. That might have been the thinking behind the collaboration between the German luxury luggage maker and La Marzocco, a Florence-based leader in handmade espresso machinery.
Milan Design Week: The Highlights
The installation came to life in a theatrical ten-minute sequence as the screen went from sunrise to sunset, and the washi paper inside the sculptures dynamically lit, each performing a unique dance to a bespoke soundtrack by the Japanese musician Keiichiro Shibuya. In Beyond the Horizon the identical sculptures symbolized the “hardware” in the car interface, while the thousand-plus year-old Echizen washi paper suggested the “software” element which would ever-evolve to offer unique in-car experiences tailored to the individual. For the week, Milan simply buzzed with design activity—the vibrant districts of Brera, Tortona and beyond hosting pop-up installations and exhibits, talks and discussions, and with parties flowing into the night. Brands put out their very best show, but mainly Milan Design Week is about the sharing of ideas, and speculating how design can help better shape our lives. For this arty piece showcased at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery, Périlhou partnered with basket weaver Audrey Bruneau, too.

The pillows are meant to complement Ditre Itali’s Blazer armchair, designed by Daniele Lo Scalzo Moscheri and evoking a garment’s cuff. Australia’s Articolo Studios — internationally recognized for its contemporary, artisanal lighting, will debut its first furniture label Articolo Home. Milan Design Week 2024: 9 Design Trends Spotted by AD Editors
That was certainly the case with this week’s offering at their Milan flagship, which drew an eclectic stream of visitors this week to view the brand’s collaboration with the Dutch collective We Make Carpets. These were impressive feats of craftmanship of which the brand’s founder—the late, great Issey-san—would certainly be proud. Forgoing immersive product presentations or the more common in-store activations of Salone del Mobile, Moncler took over the walls (and station gates) of Milano Centrale, the city’s architecturally significant central railway station. The brand’s exhibition, “An Invitation to Dream,” paired large-scale, black-and-white still images and slow-motion film portraiture by London-based photographer Jack Davidson, spotlighting artists Daniel Arsham and Laila Gohar, playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Dr. Deepak Chopra, musician Rina Sawayama, and more. Curator Jefferson Hack oversaw each detail, from the visionary talent featured to the use of digital billboards and even the inclusion of handprinted lithographic prints. About 300,000 people pass through Milano Centrale every day, and Moncler’s exhibition warmly welcomes them all.

Lanvin selected the two women behind Rooms Studio as design partners to mirror the trailblazing path of founding designer Jeanne Lanvin. In addition to its presence at the Rho fairgrounds, Missoni will stage a series of events in town. Every morning breakfast will be served courtesy of the “Caffé Suonarestella” format, the brand’s takeover of Italian social media personality Paolo Stella’s apartment intended to spotlight its entire home collection designed by creative director Alberto Caliri. Items of the line also will be displayed at the new Missoni store located a stone’s throw from the city’s Golden Triangle, while the brand’s headquarters in the Brera district will showcase designs from the new outdoor project developed with specialist Roda. He is an exceptionally creative, highly detailed and vastly experienced architectural designer with over 20 years of experience. She plays a valuable role in all aspects of the design process, from space planning, FF&E sourcing, and specification, to art direction and custom furniture development. A strong communicator, Denise is successful at collaborating with both internal teams and externally with clients, architects, and contractors. Denise holds a master’s degree in Interior Architecture from California State Polytechnic University and a bachelor’s from the University of California Los Angeles and is a NCIDQ accredited designer. Within the historic walls of Teatro Gerolamo, design studio Formafantasma challenged us to look beyond mere aesthetics in design by turning the gaze to ethical modes of production.
At La Pelota, Hermès transformed the space with a unique display featuring raw materials like brick, stone, slate, wood, and compacted earth, arranged to depict a jockey’s silk jersey on the floor. The wood-like surface formed an X-shaped platform, inviting visitors to walk upon it while admiring the diverse materials. The colorful geometric motifs of the jockey silk, planted on the floor as an indoor installation, paid homage to Hermès’ heritage in leather goods and textiles.

Plan C is blending art performance and product launch by taking over the windows of the Banner store in the tony Via Sant’Andrea shopping street. An exclusive installation named “Unexpected Guest” and developed with Italian artist and director Maria Chiara Venturini will mix videos and physical objects — including the brand’s new Camera and Tote Folded bags launching exclusively at the retailer and at Plan C’s e-commerce this week. Interiors-to-fashion designer Faye Toogood has re-conceptualized the type of stately Poltrona Frau armchair the historic, Tolentino-based furniture maker is known for. Through her curated, abstract lens, Toogood envisaged the Squash collection, which she said is like “English folk with Italian horsepower and embodies her soft, sculptural approach.” The collection also includes a rug and a mirror. The result is a seven-item line blending a futuristic flair and playful touch with the brand’s aesthetic codes, including its monogram logo.
Designed by Sabine Marcelis and CLOUD, the exhibition showcased a captivating array of furniture objects and accessories, all in dialogue with the Fuorisalone theme of Materia Natura. Illuminated by a monumental lighting resembling a sun, the space glowed with a golden warmth, casting its radiance upon the yellow surroundings. Below this sun-like lighting, modular seating systems awaited exploration, inviting visitors to experience the texture of their fabric. This collaboration sought to explore the rich material expressions and traditional crafts of the region, offering reinterpretations of its biodiversity, expansive desertscape, and cultural customs through diverse perspectives. Denise is the Director of Design & Projects at Avenue Interior Design, specializing in bespoke experiences with a strong attention to detail. As one of Avenue’s longest tenured team members, Denise is well-versed in taking projects from concept development through construction administration.
His extensive knowledge is a wonderful resource for our team, as well as our clients and the project stakeholders. At the Fendi Casa store opposite Teatro alla Scala, the brand unveiled its latest homewares collection in grand style—yet when you looked a little closer, the furniture offered a window into creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi’s more playful side. In the store, nine new ceramic vases will stand against a monumental canvas by the Italian Neo-expressionist painter Sandro Chia. The bold vases embody the fusion of Eastern and Western traditions that Yang D’Haene expresses in her work, where she combines porcelain and stoneware with gestural incisions and encrustations disrupting the symmetry of the form and creating unexpected surfaces. Both brands are owned by craftsman Romeo Sozzi, who is also the CEO of both Lake Como-based companies.
This year, Saint Laurent made its first foray into Milan Design Week with a stylish presentation of Gio Ponti plates, originally created by the legendary Italian designer as part of a residential commission in Venezuela. In the pantheon of glass- and crystal-making, the rope—a long and hollow element crafted from hot twisting and stretching molten lava—is one of the most technical to achieve. Used widely as a connector, or a “branch,” in chandeliers, it is also one of its most unsung, as designers would rather draw attention to the dainty decorations that hang off it.
Inside the boutique, circular elements crafted using 3D printing techniques will further echo the weave textures of the baskets used to collect the mandarins during the harvest, while Acqua di Parma’s signature Art Deco fragrance bottles will be integrated into the totemic structures. For one, Serapian’s tie-up with Celestino gave way to an armchair elevated by the brand’s signature Mosaico leather weaving technique. The distinctive motif will also enhance the geometric shape of a series of trays that the label developed with Italian design company Bonacina. To mark its design week debut, German luxury brand MCM will unveil the MCM Wearable Casa collection conceived with Atelier Biagetti and displayed at 17th-century Palazzo Cusani location. The book is now available to buy exclusively at Zegna stores globally and online at the brand’s website. “We are very proud to unveil the ‘Born in Oasi Zegna’ book that narrates a timeless story never told before.
I have authored several lifestyle books, including the critically acclaimed and commercially successful The Life Negroni, and I work as a content strategist and luxury brand consultant at Spinach. This follows the label’s first foray into the world of objects with the Mani initiative, which was developed to support the work of a selection of artisans whose creativity and aesthetic were in line with the vision of founders Chiara Capitani and Romy Blanga. Visitors will be able to book a 30-minute guided tour to discover the new scents with a brand representative as well as with Chiara Ravaioli, who founded Fornice Objects in 2019 to explore the intersections of sustainable materials, creative craftsmanship and 3D printing.
While studying Interior Design at UCLA, Ashley joined a hospitality-based interior design firm and was soon designing 4 and 5 star hospitality properties. Later, Ashley joined the team at sbe where she closely collaborated on projects with design icon Philippe Starck and celebrity chef José Andrés. As Co-Founder of Avenue, Ashley enjoys day-to-day client interaction and regular job-site visits to oversee the construction administration and installation of Avenue ID’s projects. In the two-level Milan boutique of French luxury fashion house Lanvin, an array of the brand’s colorful Ballerina shoes and one jewel-encrusted Concerto Bag has found a temporary home during Salone del Mobile—all sitting atop sculptural benches and chairs, including one crafted from aluminum by Rooms Studio. Founded in the nation of Georgia by Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia in 2007, the architecture and design studio coupled these pieces with tall, slender, rough-hewn lamps with upturned glass shades reminiscent of a closed flower.
